January 10: Our member, Andria Sullivan, welcomed 35 club members to her lovely home in Santa Luz for a presentation on how to put your roses to sleep for beautiful blooms in the Spring. Andria was joined by Master Gardener and RSFGC member, Beth Van Boxtel. Both Andria and Beth demonstrated how to trim a potted rose and discussed the various tools they use for this task. They also discussed general care for roses including choosing good roses, planting for optimum growth, feeding and irrigation. After the presentation, Andria and Beth demonstrated pruning techniques on different varieties of roses in Andria’s garden. However, we did not witness them trimming all 100+ of her rose bushes!

February 5: Master Gardener, Linda Stewart, gave a highly informative presentation on how to deal with garden pests. Check out the photos of the event and her presentation by clicking on the highlighted links.

March 5: Diana Roy of Rezendiz Protea Growers was a wealth of knowledge on how to grow and care for proteas. She brought beautiful protea bouquets and plants for sale and a gorgeous protea arrangement that our member, Kathryn Gang, took home! You can check the photos here or see Diana’s presentation by clicking on this highlighted link.

April 1: “Healing the Body, Mind and Planet with Mushrooms and Other Fungi” was the topic of our April presentation. Mr. Steve Farrar is a certified mycologist and knows pretty much everything about mushrooms! It was so interesting to learn the various uses for mushrooms other than cooking with them. April 18: We visited the Japanese Frienship Garden in Balboa Park. If you haven’t been there, it is definitely a “must see!” The weather was pretty close to perfect for the docent-led tour and we learned a lot about how the garden relfects the Japanese culture. Did you know that Yokohama is San Diego’s sister city? If you did not make it on this field trip, plan a day to visit this garden. It is well worth it! See photos by clicking here.
